Privacy policy

Allostasis is built to run entirely in your browser. There is no account, no advertising, and no analytics. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us or to anyone else. This page spells out what that means in practice, and applies to allostasis.app and the installable web app version of it.

What we collect

Nothing personal. Allostasis has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or any other personal information. We do not use advertising or analytics of any kind. The site does not load Cloudflare Web Analytics, Google Analytics, or any other analytics script or beacon, and its content security policy only allows scripts served from allostasis.app itself.

Data stored on your device

To remember a few things between visits, the app saves small settings in your browser's local storage, on your device only. Right now that is:

• Practices you have marked as favorites
• Whether spoken breathing guidance is turned on
• Your recent reflections: which practice you did, how long it ran, and how you said you felt before and after. The app keeps the most recent forty entries and you can clear them from the Reflections screen at any time.

This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us. Clearing the site data in your browser removes it. If you installed Allostasis to your home screen, removing the app does the same.

The app also registers a service worker that caches its own files (pages, scripts, fonts, icons, and the short guidance audio clips) so it can open offline. That cache holds only the app's files, not anything about you.

Network connections

Everything the app needs is served from allostasis.app. The display fonts are self-hosted, and the guidance audio clips are ordinary files on the same domain. Browsing or using the app makes no routine connection to any other company. The only outside requests are ones you start yourself by following a link.

Hosting

allostasis.app is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles the HTTP requests your browser makes for the site's files and applies its own privacy policy to that traffic. We have not turned on Cloudflare Web Analytics for this site, and we do not receive visitor-level data from Cloudflare.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other websites, for example research citations or our companion project Brain Beats. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies.

Children's privacy

Allostasis does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, because it collects no personal information at all. It is not specifically directed at children under 13.

Health disclaimer

Allostasis is a wellness tool for general wellbeing. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. If something hurts or frightens you, stop, and talk with a qualified professional about ongoing symptoms.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
